North Wales Building Preservation Specialist
Kimberley Gulf have been working in North West Wales since 1974, initially focussing on timber treatments (dry rot, wet rot and woodworm) and damp proofing.
The company was originally founded by Dave (Patch) Roberts in Bodorgan, Anglesey; the name came from Dave’s time working in the Kimberley diamond mines in South Africa, and the Gulf Stream wind that bought him home when he sailed his boat back to Anglesey. He told us he had plenty of time to think up the company name on his travels!
Martin Ellis bought Kimberley Gulf from Dave in 1988 and established its headquarters in Church Street, Caernarfon. Among other members of staff Peter Roberts joined the company when Martin took over.
Gareth Ellis joined the business in 2002. We moved to Peblig Mill, Caernarfon in 2004, and Peter and Gareth took over when Martin retired in 2009.
Damp Treatments, Dry Rot Treatment, Wet Rot Treatment and Woodworm Treatment, and Water Proofing (Tanking) and the associated removal and replacement of wall plaster is still our core business. We directly employ our own qualified plasterers who hold CITB CSCS cards.
Peter Roberts and Gareth Ellis hold the Property Care Association qualifications of Certified Surveyor in Remedial Treatment (CSRT) and Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW). These qualifications allow us to survey, assess and design the appropriate treatments and systems to resolve or manage a problem or defect.
Building Surveys & Assessments
The business has evolved over recent years to offer other specialist surveying and assessing services:
Asbestos Surveys: Both Peter and Gareth hold the BOHS P402 qualification in Building Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos.
Energy Performance Certificates: Both Peter and Gareth are qualified Domestic Energy Assessors (DipDEA) accredited to assess and produce Domestic Energy Performance Certificates by Elmhurst Energy.
With experienced, qualified staff and surveyors the company has attracted business from local and public authorities, banks and building societies, architects and surveyors, builder contractors and homeowners; all confident that our specialist skills will meet and exceed their requirements
Kimberley Gulf Limited is able to offer clients expert and qualified advice in the field of Timber Preservation, Damp Proofing and waterproofing with a quick and professional response safe in the knowledge that we have Contractors’ Liability, Professional Indemnity and Contractors’ All Risk insurance at all times.
Kimberley Gulf has always traded under the same company name. So even though the company has changed ownership all of the guarantees are still valid. Our guarantees belong to the property and not the owner. But please remember that we are not responsible for a lack of maintenance.
We usually charge for an inspection which can be refundable if you take up any work from us. Our inspection fee helps to cover the cost of our Liability Insurance. We are liable for all the advice we give and often only provide advice following an inspection as not every damp problem requites specialist treatments or building work.
We also inspect and repair cavity wall tie defects and wall stitching; and give practical advice and solutions relating to flood protection and the management of condensation problems.
